Discussion round "Longdrinks"

We cordially invite you to a new round of our student event series "Longdrinks". During a relaxed discussion evening, we want to exchange ideas about an exciting topic from the book and media industry.

Topic: Reading promotion – Every child can read!?

Reading is an elementary part of today's life, whether shopping, googling or in contracts, everywhere one is confronted with texts. Yet 6.2 million people in Germany can only read and write inadequately – that corresponds to about 12%. To change this, initiatives such as the Mainz-based Stiftung Lesen organise various projects, e.g. book and game boxes for refugees, reading kits for social institutions, reading clubs or book gifts in the Happy Meal. The campaign "Lesen macht Leben leichter" (Reading makes life easier) by the state association of adult education centres and the Büchereizentrale Schleswig-Holstein is also part of this. At the "Longdrinks" evening, we want to present some examples of projects to promote reading, discuss them together and perhaps even develop new ideas for possible projects. We look forward to seeing you there!

Jour Fixe

The popular event series of the International Gutenberg Society in Mainz e.V. for members and interested parties invites to lectures. Speakers and experts from the printing and media world will contribute to the success of this series in a relaxed atmosphere free of charge. Afterwards each time a small wine tasting takes place. As a rule, the topic of the presentation and the winery will be announced separately in advance. Admission is free!

Since 2006, the Jour Fixe has offered all book and media enthusiasts the opportunity to expand their knowledge through a scientific lecture. Afterwards there is the opportunity to get to know like-minded people and to exchange ideas with them. The event was founded by Günther Lindner and Hartmut Flothmann as a lunch meeting in the Gutenberg Museum. Since the end of 2018, the Jour Fixe has been an evening event that takes place in the Kulturei (Citadel) and continues the goals of the founders.
