Discussion Round "Longdrinks"

We cordially invite you to a new round of our student event series "Longdrinks". During a relaxed discussion evening, we want to exchange ideas about an exciting topic from the book and media industry.

Topic: Literary adaptation – Is the book better than the film?

Anyone who has read a book has their very own images of the story stored in their mind's eye. When we read, we use our imagination to picture the story and open up a new world for ourselves. Books give us the opportunity to put faces to the protagonists themselves and paint the landscape through which they move. A novel adaptation, on the other hand, is based on the imagination of others, the director and his film crew. Thanks to modern computer technology, the film adaptation can be particularly impressive through music, effects and animation, and yet many still prefer the book to the film. Why is that? What are the respective advantages and disadvantages of the two media? And is the book really better than the film?

We would like to discuss these and other exciting questions about film adaptations of literature with you and look forward to talking with you! The event will be moderated by our intern Elina Mandzyuk.
