The profound, massive influence of letterpress printing formed the decisive basis for the reproduction of writing and the Enlightenment; in a sense, therefore, also for our modern society. The previous topics of the Long Drink Evening have tended to be characterized by current, contemporary developments. We want to continue to take this up, but this quarter we also want to provide a historical reference. Because the modern, inflationary media canon threatens to blur Gutenberg's legacy and take it out of the focus of our zeitgeist. At the same time, modern digital interfaces offer a variety of possibilities for reinterpreting, communicating and shaping the book, letterpress printing and type. PC and Internet intervene in societies, politics, culture, education and our understanding of the world in many complex ways.
On this evening we want to discuss with you your very personal experiences and impressions, to what extent digitization guides, strengthens or weakens your perception of the media creator Gutenberg and his legacy. The evening will be moderated by Gutenberg Society intern Florian Thieme.
