As a historical heritage, the Scientific City Library Mainz preserves a stock of approx. 77,000 prints from the 16th to 18th centuries. It owes most of its historical prints to the libraries of the Mainz branch of the Jesuits dissolved in 1773 and the monastery of the Mainz Charterhouse dissolved in 1781.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Department of Historical Collections, members of the International Gutenberg Society and all interested parties are given a guided tour through this precious collection. The tour will be conducted by the curator Dr. Annelen Ottermann. Her expertise is reflected in her work as deputy head of the Department of Manuscripts, Rara, Old Prints and Conservation. All participants will have the opportunity to reconstruct the composition of the old holdings and their provenances on the basis of originals. A trip to the book tower is also planned.
