The International Gutenberg Society and the Gutenberg Foundation cordially invite all interested parties to a day excursion to Darmstadt on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.
First we will visit the Department of Type Casting, Typesetting and Printing at the Hessisches Landesmuseum. In the "active" museum, volunteer typesetters and printers demonstrate working techniques using numerous functional machines, which vividly document the transition from manual work to machine work in the printing trade from the beginning of the 19th century to the 1970s.
After a joint lunch, the tour continues to the Mathildenhöhe Institute. There, as part of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, an exhibition will be presented in the Museum Künstlerkolonie, illustrating the significance of the Mathildenhöhe for the development of the Bauhaus and post-war architecture.
