Prof. Dr. Gerhard Lauer

Occupation/Office:
University lecturer, Gutenberg Chair for Book Studies and Reading Research at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Gutenberg's significance for me:
Gutenberg combined technical expertise, curiosity in testing new ways with a keen sense for the aesthetic quality of books and writings, without himself suspecting the significance his developments would have.

My goals:
I would like to combine the history of books with the study of contemporary upheavals in the reading access to the world.

My target groups:
My target audience is our students, colleagues both locally and globally, and the wider public for whom books and reading matter.

Why GS:
In coordination with the museum, the foundation and the university, the GS brings together those interested and curious to understand more precisely how bookmaking has changed and will change the world.
