Gutenberg Prize

The Gutenberg Prize of the International Gutenberg Society in Mainz e.V. and the state capital Mainz will be awarded in 2024 to Dr Valentyna Bochkovska, Director of the Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine in Kyiv, for her "selfless and courageous commitment to the preservation of national cultural assets under the most difficult conditions".
This year's winner is honoured for her courageous and selfless commitment to national cultural assets under the most difficult conditions of war. The jury justified its decision by stating that "the preservation and safeguarding of cultural assets and thus also the preservation of identity in Europe's recent history deserves special attention".
Participation is at the invitation of the Lord Mayor Nino Haase. Members of the International Gutenberg Society in Mainz e.V. have exclusive access!

Valentyna Bochkovska has been the director of the Museum of Books in Print of Ukraine in Kyiv since 2008. She holds a doctorate in history and has curated numerous exhibitions, art projects and literature festivals. She conducted research at the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books at the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv (1986-2008). As part of her international research activities, she participated in the International Visitor Leadership Programme "The Role of Museums in Defining National Identity" (USA, 2009), the AAM International Conference (USA, 2017) and the AAM International Virtual Conference in San Francisco 2020. She was a Fulbright Scholar 2016-2017 (Chicago-Stamford) with the project "American collections of Antique Ukrainian Books XVI-XVIII c." and curator of the exhibition "Ukraine on the Maps of the World XVI-XX c." (June-July 2017). In 2022/2023 she was a visiting scholar at the University of Bologna.
