Network
For over 120 years, the International Gutenberg Society has been part of a unique, global network of individuals, institutions and businesses committed to the history, technology and future of printing. Our network brings together research, culture, museum practice and craftsmanship, creating an environment in which tradition and innovation are equally valued.
Our partners in research, culture and practice
As a close partner of the Gutenberg Museum Mainz — the world museum of printing — we provide conceptual and material support for its exhibitions, restoration projects, and educational programmes. We also work closely with the Gutenberg Foundation, a key player in the museum's development. Together, we are working to carry Gutenberg's legacy into the future.
Through our close ties with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, particularly in the field of book science, we promote academic work, research projects, and international exchange. For over a century, we have shared our research findings with the global academic community through the Gutenberg Yearbook and other publications.
International networking
The Gutenberg Society boasts a thriving international network comprising printing museums, research institutions, collectors, libraries, and experts specialising in the history of books, writing, and media.
We are the point of contact for:
- international collaborations on printing and media research
- joint exhibition and publication projects
- networking among experts worldwide
- -the exchange of innovative communication concepts
With around 600 national and international members, we actively maintain and expand dialogue across national and linguistic boundaries. A key element of this is the planned digital platform for international research articles, which will offer straightforward access to the yearbook's editorial team and publishers, and thus to global research.
Ambassadors of the Society
Our Senators and Executive Board members are renowned figures from the worlds of science, culture, and public life. They help raise awareness of the Society's goals, both nationally and internationally. They play a vital role in fostering connections between research institutions and the public.
Shaping the future together
Our network thrives on the diversity of its participants, whether they are museums, universities, printing workshops, libraries or committed individuals. We invite institutions and individuals worldwide to join us in developing the cultural and scientific heritage of Johannes Gutenberg further, and to exchange ideas and set new impulses for the future of printing culture.
