We cordially invite you to the student event series "Longdrinks". On Thursday, 17 February 2022, we will once again discuss an exciting topic online via MS Teams in a relaxed discussion group.
Topic: Book consumption and reception today – Where and how are books bought? From whom do you get the next hot book tip?
The book market is becoming more and more digital. With one click, the book is in the shopping basket and the next day the parcel is already on your doorstep. But how do you find out about the next literary insider tip? More and more people are creating social media profiles that give an insight into their "book hauls" and "bookshelves", among other things, with lifestyle impressions of their polished "everyday life". This sometimes raises the question of how far the so-called "booktubers" and "bookstagramers" qualify as book critics at all. Irrespective of this legitimate question, the digital "bookinfluencers" are enjoying an increasing reach – which in turn the established reviewers, such as the major daily newspapers or the Literary Quartet, are losing. What impact does this development have on our book-buying and reading behaviour, and is perhaps even a bit of literary quality lost as a result?
We look forward to discussing these and other exciting questions about the possible future of the book market and book criticism with you. The event will be moderated by Gutenberg Society interns Sonja Knobling and Huyen Tran Tran Thi.
