Where does the book world gather every year? In Frankfurt am Main. From 7 to 11 October 2026, Mainz’s three Gutenberg institutions will once again share a stand there: the Gutenberg Museum Mainz – World Museum of Printing, the Gutenberg Foundation with the Gutenberg Shop, and the International Gutenberg Society in Mainz. Since the museum opened in 1901, the Society has supported research into printing, type and the book. Our aim: to bring Gutenberg’s invention to the place where the future of the book is being discussed today.
History you can touch
At our joint stand in Hall 3, Stand J 66 & 69, history becomes tangible. Every hour, the museum printer demonstrates at the reconstructed Gutenberg press how printing was done in Mainz some 575 years ago. He sets movable metal type, inks it and pulls the sheet. Anyone who stands at the press for a moment quickly understands what printing made possible. Knowledge, education and free expression became accessible to many people. Preserving this legacy and keeping it alive is what unites the Museum, the Foundation and the Society.
We Print for Democracy
As last year, we invite you to do some printing yourself. This time an original Adana press is ready for you. You will make a special print to take home as a statement of support for freedom and democracy. At the frottage station, visitors young and old can also create their own printed work.
Book presentation for the museum’s anniversary
This year the Gutenberg Museum celebrates its 125th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a book has been published that offers a look behind the scenes: „Die gefährlichste Erfindung der Welt. Kuratiert vom Gutenberg-Museum Mainz.“(The Most Dangerous Invention in the World. Curated by the Gutenberg Museum Mainz). We will be presenting it at the stand.
