Focusing on the Mainz Liedertafel (1831–1967), the tour will explore the institution's significant role in the city's musical life and its connections to renowned composers such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Giacomo Meyerbeer, and Paul Hindemith. Selected archival materials will be on display, ranging from sheet music and correspondence to rare documents, offering insights into concert practices, club life, and historical upheavals.
The tour is of particular interest to the Gutenberg Society, as the exhibition also highlights the Liedertafel's role in the historical Gutenberg celebrations, revealing its significance in the cultural memory of Johannes Gutenberg.
