Although the Jour Fixe cannot be held as a face-to-face event as usual, we are pleased to be able to offer you a digital alternative instead. Topic: "Christmas motifs in book art from the Middle Ages to modern times".
Speaker: Prof. Stephan Füssel

Prof. Stephan Füssel presents highlights of book art from the rarely shown Mainz Gospels (13th century) to the Cranach woodcuts of the Luther Bible (1534), from precious Gospels, Books of Hours and the Bible, and explains the rich pictorial tradition of the Annunciation of the Angel, the "stable" of Bethlehem or the special role of Joseph. What do ox and donkey actually stand for and why did three holy kings come?
Magnificent pictures from valuable manuscripts from the holdings of the JGU publishing archives in Mainz come to life on the screen in their colorfulness.
Technical access is possible via any PC or MAC without the need for any software, all that is needed is a code in the form of a link.
